So I've been looking into building a dedicated 24/7 [email protected] PC to be running even after this whole pandemic. I've been into Folding much before this whole fiasco started, including other similar projects such as [email protected], [email protected] and ect. All I have been doing is using my gaming PC to run when I'm not using it. But I would like to build a dedicated system with 4 Radeon RX 560's running 24/7. But the problem is, which motherboard do I even use? I'm not looking to spend $300 on a 4 pciE 16x slot motherboard, and I can't use one of those bitcoin mining boards with a bunch of 1x pciE slots since [email protected] likes at least 4x slots. Anyone have any insight on which motherboard to choose? I was looking at the BIOSTAR TB250-BTC D+. Would this be possible to use for Folding? Thanks!

certain PCI-E slots unstable after reboot without pulling the plug, super weird, anyone been in a similar situation?
this is super weird, and took a long time to figure out (after first thinking it was everything else, risers, PSU, GPU, motherboard, ..) on this picture, the pci-e slots marked in green are always stable. the ones marked with red, are stable if the electricity was pulled prior to reboot, but if the electricity was not pulled out prior to reboot, then they have about a 50% chance of being stable/unstable. at first i thought it was a bad bios overclock, so i reverted to stock bios, then i replaced the risers, then i thought it was a bad PSU, replaced it, then maybe a bad motherboard, so i replaced it. but it is the exact same situation with the brand new motherboard/PSU/riser. the PSUs are super-high-end, 2x Corsair AX1600i, Corsair's flagship (best) 1600W 80+ Titanium PSUs. the motherboard is Asus B250 Mining Expert, updated to firmware version 1205. the risers are Dayspirit 009S (and i'm not using the sata->pci-e converters to power the riser, i'm using these pci-e splitter cables instead, but also tried with a different 008S riser model from a different manufacturer, didn't help), the GPUs are 10x different RX580's (2x Aorus RX580, 5x Asus Dual RX580 OC, 1x Asus ROG Strix RX580, 1x PowerColor Red Devil RX580, 1x Maxsun RX580, all 8GB GRAM models), anyone experienced anything like this? any idea what's happening?

So after a few years of trading through exchanges (coinbase) and making a bit of cash from latest Bitcoin surge (not much, like others I sold thinking it would tank again, but hey, it's cash I didn't have before). I decided to make jump to mining. Never really use Reddit. So never knew there were communities on here for it. Read reviews, guides, and forums elsewhere, and came up with / bought hardware for a rig. Plan on having it up and running before New year. Just wanted to check with some experts if I did ok, or if I made some bad choices. Open to suggestions and advice. Thanks in advance! Original Post: Hi everyone, I am the official North American distributor of Break-out boards for the IBM 2880W Bladecenter H PSU's, which are 80+ platinum rated (94%+ efficient) Edit: UN-VERIFIED AT THIS POINT and have provision for 22x PCI-E cables. Unlike other server boards, these don't rely on screw-down terminals and bare wires which can get loose and spark causing fire hazards, and limit the exposure of live contacts to surfaces above and below the PSU. Instead these use a double-sided PCI 6 pin cable, which only cost about $0.10 more than the standard PCI-6 to bare wire versions. Also, unlike the DPS-2000BB -which is the next largest server PSU available for miners- these have fans already built-in, so don't need extra work to set up up and deploy. The PSU's themselves are available on e-bay and elsewhere (I sell them as well), and the boards will be priced at US $70 $65 each (better pricing for bulk purchase, volume structure will be the same as J4bberwock's). Each PSU can handle 2x Antminer S7's, 3x SP20's, 5 Antminer S5's, or 8 Antminer S3's. Very impressive, and I will be testing different fans to reduce sound for home mining (fans on these PSU's are slightly louder & higher pitched than SP20 fans). Sloopy informed me that he ran 11x Antminer S3's on a PSU for a while (over 3,300W DC!), but that is certainly not recommended, and will eventually cause the PSU to fail. It is simply a testament to how tough these PSU's truly are, and that spikes over their rated output shouldn't affect performance. I'm trying to build a bitcoin/altcoin mining rig (same concept as building a pc) but with 6 GPUs. With risers, I will end up converting each of the gpu's PCIE 16x to PCIE 1x so I will have six individual PCIE 1x representing the six gpus. The motherboard that supposedly supports 6 GPUs has the specs: 1 x PCIe 2.0 x16 (blue) 1 x PCIe 2.0 x16 (x4 mode, black) 2 x PCIe 2.0 x1 2 x PCI So now my question is, how can I fit the six PCIe 1x into those slots above? Can the PCIE x16 fit 16 PCIE x1? How does it work? Thanks
[Troubleshooting] I have a super weird build with 2 GPU's, and I'm getting no video output from either. The commenter that fixes my problem will be gilded.
(I posted this question to /litecoinmining (and /dogemining), but only got one answer. Just to be sure I want a few more opinions before I go ahead) I've bought an R9 270, and I have it set up inside a milk crate (litecoin miners know what I'm talking about). The milk crate is sitting next to my gaming computer (I bought a very, very long USB riser to attach the GPU), and I have plugged the gaming computer's PSU into both the powered riser and the new GPU's 6-pin slot. The R9 270 is meant to serve as a full-time bitcoin miner, and is drawing it's power from my gaming computer. However, when I tried to turn on the computer (with both the 6850 and the R9 270 plugged in), almost everything would work fine. I have checked and made sure the CPU, graphics cards, and the hard drive are working fine. However, my monitors would get no input from both the 6850 and the motherboard's HDMI plug. (My motherboard is an Asrock H61M/U3S3) I then unplugged the R9 270 + it's 1x to 16x riser, and both PSU cords. When I booted the computer back up, I miraculously started getting video input again. One last thing: Whenever I run the PC while the R9 270 is plugged in, the PC shuts down as soon as I press the power button. Not sure if this is relevant at all, but just thought this could help anyone looking for a solution. What I've done so far:

I've been mining on my 6850 for a few months and I've decided that it's pathetic. I understand that "when ASICs arrive" it will change the entire mining ecosystem, but given the perpetual delays in shipping (at least from Butterfly Labs), I want to build my own GPU powered miner. I have about $4k USD to put into a system (or multiple systems if that's a better idea) and I'd like it to hit at least 3.5 Gigahash/s. So here's my questions: 1) To keep the machine viable as long as possible, it needs to be power efficient. The numbers I've seen on the new 7990 put it at about 1.2 Ghash for 375 watts of consumption (https://en.bitcoin.it/wiki/Mining_hardware_comparison and http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/radeon-hd-7990-review-benchmark,3486.html) - 3.2 Mhash/watt. Would I see better efficiency numbers from a different card? 2) I understand that mining does not require the card to be in a full speed PCIe slot to get optimal hashing power. If I use a 7990, is the fact that it is a Dual-GPU card going to require more than a 1x PCIe slot? Or, more specifically, how much bandwidth does hashing require per Mhash/s? The answer to that question leads to the last question - 3) If I build a setup with a backplane for additional PCIe slots, how many slots could I realistically add before Windows 7 Ultimate x64 fails to recognize the devices or otherwise derps out? I'm not against setting up with a Linux based system, I just haven't seen appropriate drivers available on that platform. (Side note - do I NEED Catalyst drivers to run an OpenCL miner?) I live in the DC area, looking to sell my mining rig. I'm interested in upgrading my equipment and I don't want this anymore. I've had this for about a month. The GPUs are still working great. One of the GPUs over heats easily but some thermal paste should do the trick (I haven't applied any yet). It's currently averaging 1.5M to 1.7M. This can be bumped up another 100+ hash once thermal paste is applied to the 4th GPU. I like to keep my cards under 80C. Currently uses BAMT 1.3 on a USB stick.
